Regional Highlights:
New Congregations – our Region is among the fastest growing Region in the denomination.
Since October of 2011, we have launched 6 new congregations in the Region.
Fe Esperanza y Amor in San Diego with Pastor Taurino Rivera, a growing Spanish speaking congregation that started with about 60 members and has already grown to over 250.
Urban Mission Church, under the leadership of Pastor Al Lopez, and the Hatchery, under the leadership of Spencer Burke are among the most creative new church starts and service opportunities in our denomination. ‘
Pastor Hyo Cheol Kim of Vision of Jesus Christian Church, a primarily Korean speaking congregation began its ministry in downtown Los Angeles.
New church development and transformation:
Our New Church Development committee is now guiding a total of 28 congregations through the under care process.
New Clergy Education and Support – In the past 8 years our Region has added 13 new clergy that are under 40 years old
We have been sending pastors to Church planter training for several years. Most recently we had 10 who attended the Leadership Academy for Church planting and transformation sponsored by Hope Partnership at Church Extension.
In partnership with DSF an exciting new Certificate of Ministry Studies in Spanish has been developed and is now directed by our Regional Ministry Team member Pastor Xose Escamilla. We celebrated 25 students who graduated from this intensive study.
Clergy Care & Support - Since 2010 we have installed and/or ordained 32 pastors to serve our congregations in the PSWR; 24 of which are brand new to our Region. Our Committee on Ministry committee is currently working with over 70 pastoral candidates in either the Commissioning or Ordination process.
Laity and Clergy Leadership Training Events – In 2014, we offered 7 unique stewardship training events, including our first ever Creation Care Conference. Over 125 persons participated.
SoulFull – In 2014, over 70 congregations participated in a Region-sponsored outreach that culminated in over 25,000 pairs of shoes being collected and delivered to the Regional Assembly. These shoes were delivered to persons needing shoes in different 3rd world communities.
Women’s & Men’s Ministries – Disciples Men and Women remain vital ministries of our Region – last year over 300 Women’s & Men participated in Regionally sponsored Women’s & Men events.
Congregational Revitalization – Our Region is one of the most active Regions in working with congregations for revitalization. We currently have over 15 congregations involved with or exploring revitalization / transformation opportunities.
Regional Units: We continue to have 6 of the most active ministry units of any Region in the country. These unites include: All Peoples Christian Center, Loch Leven, Chapman University, Project IMPACT, Eastmont Christian Center and Disciples Seminary Foundation.
Older Adult Ministries is extremely active and provides $1000’s of dollars in annual financial support to Region’s elderly men and women.
